Weighing a Gram – A Short Story
You’re practically buzzing. Yesterday, you ordered your first gram of powder from Kreleaf, and today, that glorious delivery truck is turning onto your street. You hear the distinct sound of the box truck shifting into park. Peeking out the window, you see the delivery driver walking up the path with a package in hand- just for you. You throw the door open, startling him for a second, but his smile only widens. “Here you go,” he says, handing over the goods.
It’s go time. Before the truck even shifts back into drive, you’ve already got the package torn half open. You rush to the kitchen counter, dump out the contents, and lay your eyes on that little round jar. The anticipation is killing you! You twist off the lid, look inside, and…
It’s only half full.
Your excitement instantly deflates into disappointment. You were shorted! Shaking your head, you think, How could they not fill the jar all the way up? You reach for your phone, ready to alert the internet and let the world know you were ripped off. You’ll take a photo to prove just how empty the jar is!
But wait. You remember what happens to people online who complain without weighing their powders first- they get roasted. If you’re going to expose this, you need a photo with the scale to prove your case.
You pull your digital scale out of the drawer and dust it off. It’s been a long time, my old friend, you think, powering it on. You place an empty tray on the plate and hit tare. Scoop by scoop, you transfer the powder. The numbers climb: 0.300… 0.650… As the jar is nearly emptied, the scale reads 0.935.
How can it be? you wonder. You scrape out the very last bit stuck to the lid and tap it into the tray. The numbers finally settle: 1.041.
You stare at the screen in disbelief. What kind of sorcery is this? You slowly slide your phone back into your pocket as your frustration turns to relief. The scale doesn’t lie. The scale doesn’t judge. The scale only knows the truth!
Why Jars Aren’t Always Full
Here is the secret: powder is sold by weight, not by volume.
Because powders vary wildly in density- some are incredibly fluffy, while others are heavy and dense- a perfect gram might fill one jar to the brim, while only filling another halfway. Furthermore, packages get bounced around in the back of delivery trucks, which naturally settles and compacts the powder inside the jar.
How to Accurately Weigh Your Powder
To make sure you’re getting exactly what you paid for, follow these quick steps:
- Prep the scale: Place an empty weighing tray on your scale and hit the “tare” button so it reads 0.000.
- Empty the jar: Transfer all the powder from the original jar into the tray on the scale.
- Check the crevices: Use a scoop to scrape any remaining powder stuck to the sides, the bottom, and especially inside the threads of both the jar and the lid.
At Kreleaf, our quality control ensures that every single gram of powder is weighed accurately to a full gram. But as always, if you ever feel something is off or need additional support, please reach out. We’ve always got your back!
